Standard took over with some good crosses from the right by
Trebel and Dossevi. Edmilson and Dompé were not heads.Moments later,
Edmilson and Dompé combined well. Dompé was suddenly alone in the corner
of the small area but decided wide.
Genk held out and poked at with a header from Dewaest which
went narrowly wide. Moments later Malinovskyi could march down the middle. His
cannon ball went narrowly over the mult of Valdés. Standard insisted but
the Genk defense stood tall.Three minutes from the break countered Genk than
deadly. Pozuelo picked the ball up, snatched up and put some nice until at
Karelis. Which did better than in the first leg of the cup and poked the
ball past Valdés against the ropes. 0-1 and so that position did not
change until halftime.
The second half started violently. Karelis kicked a
dropping ball cannonball but did not get through the forest of legs. Standard
went into counterattack and Dompé had assists. Santini was pretty clever
run and scored the equalizer high into the net.
The game then went suddenly at full speed. Malinovskyi
kicked, but missed, across Maniatis popped over. Dompé threw the ball up
close in the stands.
However, the home team scored. Kosanvic was able to put
a warded ball Dompé was well offside but as yet the 2-1 head inside.A minute
later it was Genk ten. Edmilson Walsh kicked and grabbed Delferière
straight to the back.
